Example Initiative: Basically Babies

One example of this approach is our involvement with Basically Babies, an Alberta-based registered charity that addresses early-life material poverty by providing essential newborn supplies to families in need. 

Operating in both Edmonton and Calgary, Basically Babies supports families during one of the most vulnerable stages of life by supplying essential clothing and basic care items throughout the first year of a child’s development. They also provide supplementary assistance designed to help families navigate early challenges.

In Alberta, approximately 1 in 10 children live in poverty. Early-stage material insecurity can have lasting effects on health outcomes, development, and long-term socioeconomic mobility. Addressing these gaps at the earliest stage can meaningfully improve stability for families and reduce downstream systemic pressures. Basically Babies play an important role in supporting vulnerable families during a critical stage of life. By intervening early, they help reduce immediate stress for parents and contribute to healthier long-term outcomes for children.
